How did Andrew Carnegie become a success?
Andrew Carnegie first started his career working on the Pennslyvania Railroad for 12 years. He later became superintendent of the railroad. As superintendent, he invested in the Woodruff Sleeping Car Company and introduced the first successful sleeping car on American railroads. Carnegie left the railroad in 1865 to manage the Keystone Bridge Company and the Union Iron Mills. In the early 1870s, he took his annual European vacation. While in England, Carnegie visited many steel plants and observed the relatively new Bessemer Process. With this, he decided to concentrate on steel and founded the J.Edgar Thomson Steel Works that eventually became the Carnegie Steel Company.Carnegie Steel Company grew monumentally earning Andrew Carnegie $225 million dollars, making him the richest man in the world.
